Digital scenarios for the GLAM sector

Client: RMIT

Location: Victoria

Year: 2022

Plotting a path forward into new digital territories.

Brief

Covid-19 saw galleries, libraries, archives, and museums produce new digital ways to keep audiences engaged with culture, and out of their forced experiementation emerged a number of trends and opportunities to activate collections. Left Bank Co. were approached to develop a series of policy scenarios aimed at understanding opportunities to build digital exchange potential between South East Asia and Victoria’s GLAM sector.

Approach

Collaborating with RMIT, we conducted a review of existing academic research, analysis of GLAM peak body reports and conference proceedings, a global scan of leading practice, interviews with Victorian GLAM sector representatives and a workshop with senior academics operating at the juncture of digital life and creative industries.

Impact

We assembled a series of policy scenarios into a toolkit to inform future investment in online service delivery. These scenarios considered opportunities to elevate parts of the sector with low, medium and high digital maturity, relating to an interconnected ecosystem of leadership, skills, devices and platforms, with specific focus on opportunities to connect with South East Asian audiences.
