Detailing the future of the city

Brief

The NSW Department of Planning (now Department of Planning, Industry and Environment) has been working on the rezoning of key areas of Sydney to encourage high quality development. The Carter Street Precinct near Sydney Olympic Park was earmarked for development, with the aim to deliver an urban village connected to both Parramatta and the Sydney CBD. DPE were tasked with developing both a masterplan and development control plan (DCP) for community endorsement and to guide future development.

Approach

Working with e8urban designers, Left Bank Co. was asked to take on the role of master editor for the masterplanning studies and ensuing DCP document. We worked collaboratively to incorporate community and stakeholder feedback and articulate what was both a strategic policy and design document. This required a detailed understanding of the planning system, planning controls and formatting of statutory planning documents.

Impact

The completed documentation will shape the future of this part of Greater Sydney: our work in articulating the vision and objectives as well as the detailed policies and design requirements was a critical part of ensuring this document will land successfully and achieve its core objectives.
