Upskilling Sydney’s cultural organisations and property sector to solve the city’s creative space shortage.

Impact

Over several years and spanning a few different projects, Left Bank Co. has focused on the screen industries, getting to know this very specialised typology of creative infrastructure and the nuanced conditions for its success. We love it because it is an intellectually rewarding mix of making sense of national and state policy settings, a global economic picture, local skills and capability as well as built form outcomes. It feeds into our sweet spot of leaning into the detail to make big and bold ideas land.

While there was substantial media reporting on the film production boom in Australia throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, there was already a production boom headed our way thanks to the global expansion of streaming services. Dedicated film and TV studios and production facilities have long been in demand internationally, and Australia’s handful of facilities are at capacity. The demand for skilled workers and services is outstripping the size and capacity of our local sector.

As a result, our work in this space has looked at opportunities to grow and enhance Australia’s screen industries, focusing on the infrastructure needs and sector capacity.

We’d love to share our expertise and enthusiasm for this sector ahead of the next wave of projects. Our capabilities in this field include:

  • Industry research.

  • Specialist stakeholder engagement for the screen sector.

  • Vision and business case development for infrastructure projects.

  • Brief development, procurement strategy and management of procurement process for infrastructure projects.

  • Client advocacy role.
