Revaluing Sydney’s CBD report

Client: Business NSW

Location: Sydney, New South Wales

Year: 2022

Creating more value through adaptive mixed use

Brief

As our major cities reopened in the wake of Covid-19, it was clear there had been a fundamental shift in how inner urban business centres function and are valued. Left Bank Co were engaged by Business NSW to explore alternative strategies, models and mechanisms for existing Sydney CBD building stock and planned developments to adopt more dynamic mixed-use approaches.

Approach

Left Bank Co. approached this task in two work streams: first, a case study review of global approaches to diverse mixed-use through tenure/financing options and governance and operational models. Second, an analysis of policy, financial and operational levers that can be used to generate more multi-functional mixed-use developments locally.

Impact

We produced an advocacy report that as is visually compelling and grounded by data and evidence. It illustrates a clear narrative of mixed use retrofit building and its potential economic, social and environmental benefits.  The report is an impactful communication tool to engage with stakeholders who will be making decisions on the future of the Sydney CBD, and potentially other priority business nodes in Greater Sydney.

The report is available online, hosted by Business NSW here.
